Painting the 3-D-model

Important notice!

Because I do not have an English operating system (Windows), you will not see German inscriptions in all pictures!

To give your white Deproni some Color you need a texture. Lern more about the Mapping in the section A collection of Meta functions.

As there already told a texture file is a bitmap (bmp). Normaly you can create or edit such a file with the standard windows drawing-tool PAINT.

If you wnat to create your own textures with tricky writings or parts of pictures, you need an image-editing tool like Adobe Photoshop or something like that.

The texture I used was ceated with photoshop.

Let’s have a look at the Deproni after the last step of the section Creating the 3-D-model.
Press the F1-key to get the top view.

Painting_01

Assign the file Deproni.bmp to the material mat1 and rename the material to Deproni.

Painting_02

If you now click on Show you will see the picture below. Notice that it is a bitmap with 512x512 pixel and a color depth of 24 bit!

Painting_0302

Leave this view with Close.
Now let’s start with thw Rightwing. Make all other objects invisible. Select the object Rightwing and the press Selected and set material to faces.

Painting_04

The result will look like this:

Painting_05

After pressing Map from the Command Panel a new window Mapping will appear. Set here a hook to the parameter Realtime. Afterwards you will see this:

Painting_06

As we learned in the section A collection of Meta functions want to know how the texture looks like. Therefore we set the Size to e. G. 5.0. See the result below.

Painting_07

After trying a little bit we see, that with the Angle settings Head = 0.0, Pich = -90.0 and Bank = 180.0 it looks rather pretty.

Painting_08

After setting the Size to 30.0, we can move the texture to get a view like below.

Painting_09

Press Shift/F1 to get the bottom view. But what do you see there? A mirror image of the top side!

Painting_10

That seems not to be the right way to paint the model. But what can one do? We may paint only the conserned faces!
At first switch back to the top view (F1). Then move the texture until the whole wing is painted with Depron.

Painting_11

Unselect all.

Now use the function Select from the Mapping window to select only the faces you will paint at the moment.

Painting_1202

Paint the selected faces with red. Unselect all.

Painting_1302

Select now the other faces and move the writing Deproni to where you want.

Painting_14

Unselect the Rightwing and select the Leftwing. Move the texture to get the Depron-look for the whole wing.

Painting_14_00

Unselect all.
Choose Select from the Mapping window. Select again only the faces you want to paint red. Be shure to get the faces from the leading egde too!

Painting_14_01

Switch to Move from the Mapping window and move red to the selected faces. Unselect all, press F2 and you will get the following view:

Painting_14_02

If you now make visable the Rightwing the wings look like that:

Painting_14_0302

Make visible only the objects Leftstabilizer and Rightstabilizer. Select them (Rect) and attach the material Deproni to both objects (Selected and set material to faces).
You will see this:

Painting_15

After pressing Map from the Command Panel and setting the hook to the parameter Realtime (Mapping window) it looks like that:

Painting_16

Correcting the Size and the Angle-setting will give you the result shown below:

Painting_17

Unselect all.
Do the same with Leftelevator and Rightelevator and paint them red:

Painting_18

Next paint Stabilizer,

Painting_19

Rudder

Painting_20

and Fuselage.

At next make visible only the objects Propeller and Engine. Select both (Rect) and set material to faces.
Set the seetings like shown below and move the grey square from the texture near to the middle of the objects.

Painting_2602

Now set the settings to e. G. 50.0 and move the grey to both objects.

Painting_26a

The next objects we will paint shall only have a color (without any scriptings). In this case it’s easier to have own bitmaps.
I will schow you at the example of RED how to do.
To get the same color as in the bitmap Deproni open this bitmap using Microsoft Paint.
Use the pipette to take the color like shown below.

Painting_27

For the next step choose Color / Edit palette.

Painting_28

Each color is described with 3 parameters, Red, Green and Blue (RGB-colors). The used RED has only a part of red (255) and no parts of green and blue.

Painting_29

Choose this RED to create a bitmap of 64 x 64 pixel

Painting_30

and call the new bitmap for example 255000000.bmp (like the 3 parts of RED, GREEN and BLUE).
Do the same with grey (176176176.bmp) and black (000000000.bmp). Certainlay you call the 3 bitmaps Red.bmp, Grey.bmp and Black.bmp)

Painting_31 Painting_31a Painting_31b02

Create now 3 new materials, e. G. Red, Grey and Black.

Painting_32

Make visible the 2 Blades. Highlight the material Black. Select both objects (Rect) and set material to faces.

Painting_33

Do the same with the objects Leftgear, Rightgear and Tailgear and the material Grey.

Painting_3402

At least take the 2 wheels and paint them red.

Painting_35

The complete Deproni now looks like that:
