Introduction: AFP/D needs some parts of an airplane with given names: Fuselage Stabilizer, Rudder Leftstabilizer, Leftelevator Rightstabilizer, Rightelevator Leftwing (optionally: Leftaileron, Leftflap) Rightwing (optionally: Rightaileron, Rightflap) Propeller, Blade1, Blade2 (optionally: Blade3, Blade4) Leftgear, Leftwheel Rightgear, Rightwheel Tailgear Engine
Preparations: Create on the disk of your PC a new folder and call it e. G. ‘Deproni’. Save the drawing of the Deproni to this folder. Start Meta and set the Grid to 1cm. Press the F1-Key to get the left-side view and use the wheel of the mouse to scale the grid to a size similar to this one:
Top of Page Fuselage
Looking to our Deproni-drawing we can see, that the fuselage has a length of 730 mm, a width of 50 mm and a height of 60 mm. Choose the cube from the Primitive and set the properties X (Segment=1, Size=5.0), Y (Segment=1, Size=5.0) and Z (Segemnt=1, Size=73.0). Close the window and press Create in the Primitive-window. Your obj1 will now look like that:
Move the obj1 by pressing the mouse-wheel and moving the mouse to the right until you can see the beginning of the object. Use the Edit-window to move the obj1 until it corresponds with a vertical line from the grid.
At your drawing you can see, that the fuselage consists of three parts. The front part has a length of 110 mm. Therefore cut the obj1 with the Knife after 11 squares from the left. Then press Unsel All from the Edit-Panel to be shure, that no parts are selected. Set the next cut 25 squares from the first. Then move the obj to the left to see the rear part. Select the lower edge using the Rect-function and move it with the Edit-Panel 3 cm upwards. If you now scale the view down you can see that the obj1 now looks like the side-view of the fuselage at the drawing.
Make the grid-view invisible and press the F2-key to get the top-view. Scale it to a usable size. Select the rear part of the fuselage.
Use the scale-function for the X-axis to contract the rear part of the fuselage.
At least doubleclick the obj1 and rename it to Fuselage.
Now the creation of the fuselage is finished. If you now rotate the sight you will see a real fuselage. Remember to unselect all!
Top of Page Stabilizer: Make the object Fuselage invisible. Create a Primitive with the properties X (Segment=2, Size=0.3), Y (Segment=1, Size=15.0) and Z (Segemnt=1, Size=15.0) It looks like that and is called obj1 again.
Now select the left upper egde and move it to the right until you got a triangle.
Select the complete obj1, make the Fuselage visible and move the obj1 to the right place. Unselect all and rename the obj1 to Stabilizer
Top of Page Rudder: The same way you created the Stabilizer you can do with the Rudder. The properties are: X (Segment=2, Size=0.3), Y (Segment=1, Size=15.0) and Z (Segemnt=1, Size=10.0) Select the lower left edge edge and move it a little bit upwards in Y-direction to get place for the Elevator. Do the same with the right edge, but move here some more (because of the control movement of the Elevator!) Leave a small gap between the Stabilizer and the obj1. Rename the obj1 to Rudder.
Press the F2-key to get the top-view, move all objects to the middle of the screen and zoom it until you can see the gap between Stabilizer and Rudder. Select the middle point of the Rudder and move it a little bit down (Z). Select the complete Rudder and move it close to the Stabilizer. Remember to Unselect all before doing the next step.
Top of Page Leftstabilizer Create a Primitive with the properties X (Segment=1, Size=20.0), Y (Segment=2, Size=0.3) and Z (Segemnt=1, Size=9.0) and move it to the right XZ-position.
Go to the side-view (F1) and move the obj1 upwards to the right Y-position. Rename obj1 to Leftstabilizer.
Top of Page Leftelevator Unselect all. You can build the Leftelevator the same way as the Leftstabilizer and move it to the desired position, but I want to show you another way: Set the Grid to 1 cm.
Clone the Leftstabilizer (with position Relative, X=0, Y=0 and Z=-5).
You will get the following picture:
Make now unvisible all objects exept obj1. Select the left side of the object and move it to the right until it has a size (Z-direction) of 5 squares (= 5cm).
Chamfer the left side like shown below. Rename obj1 to Leftelevator.
Top of Page Rightstabilizer and Rightelevator Press F2-key to get the top-view. Clone the object Leftstabilizer with the option Create symmetry.
Do the same with Leftelevator. Rename obj1 to Rightstabilizer and obj2 to Rightelevator. Now you see this:
Top of Page Leftwing Make all objects invisible, load the background image Rib Deproni.JPG and scale it until you see the complete rib. Then create a Primitive, e. G. with the options shown below:

Use the function Knife to set some vertical cuts. Select the object and move it until it looks like that:
Select point for point from the upper line and move it to down to the outline of the picture.
If necessary, set more cuts, until you have a nice looking rib.
Unselect all objects and set the grid to 1cm. Zoom the grid to a size where you can work with. Scale obj1 to a size corresponding to the middle part of the fuselage and place it there. Scale the obj to a thickness of 3 mm (in X-direction, same as the Rudder).
Now create a Primitive with the properties X (Segment=1, Size=60.0), Y (Segment=2, Size=0.3) and Z (Segemnt=1, Size=25.0)
Move obj2 above obj1.
Cut obj2 the same way as obj1 and move it to the contour of obj1.
Change to the top view (F2), select obj2 and move it 30 cm to the X-direction.
Unselect all. Mark obj1 and clone it with the options below:
The result will be this:
Move obj1 to the right and obj8 to the left hat they are flush with obj2. Select obj1 to obj8 and move them to a new object.
Delete obj1 to obj8.
Rename obj9 to Leftwing. Change to the Front-view (F3). Select the left end of the Leftwing and move it a little bit to the left. Press Rot from the Command Panel and then Number from the new opened Rotate-window. A further window will appear. Select the rotation about the Z-axis and set Angle to -5.00.
You will get this result:
Unselect all. Cut with the Knife the part left from the Y-axis.
Move the part left from Y-axis to a new object and delete the new obj1, it will not be needed anymore. Now a very important thing: at the side of the Leftwing you have cutted through there are no faces at all. You must close the open part using the function Create from the Command Panel, because AFP/D doesn’t like open faces!
Top of Page Now clone the object Leftwing (Create symmetry). Call the new obj1 now Rightwing. If you now make all objects visible, your model already looks like an airplane!
Top of Page Now we need a propeller with 2 blades. The simpliest way is to start a second Meta-session and open there the file PROPS.MQO. Choose therefrom th objects Prop6, Blade12 and Blade13 and make them visible.
Select Prop6 and copy it (Ctrl + C), go to the other Meta-session and paste it (Ctrl + V).
Do the same with Blade12 and Blade13. Rename the new obj1 to Propeller, obj2 to Blade1 and obj3 to Blade2.
Select the 3 new objects and make then all other objects visible. Scale the propeller and the 2 Blades down to about 10 inch (=25,4 cm). Move it to the right position. Press F3 and move it again, until it looks like that:
Top of Page Unselect all. The next step is to create the Leftgear. Press the F1-key to get the side-view. Create a Primitive. Choose the cylinder and the options shown below. Scale the new obj1 down to a lenght of about 14 cm and a diameter of about 2mm and move it to the desired position.
Select the Front-view (F3). Cut two times with knife at the shown position. Select the lower part of obj1.
Rotate it about the Z-axis . . .
and move it to the right and upwords, until it looks like shown below.
Select the complete object and rotate it -30 deg about the Z-axis.
Move it to the right and upwards. Select the right edge of obj1 and move it dow to the desired position.
At least rotate it about the Z-axis to get a vertical cutted wire.
Rename obj1 to Leftgear. Top of Page Now we will build the Leftwheel. To do this make all objects unvisible. Then create a Primitive like you can see below:
Rotate it 90 deg about the Z-axis. Create a new Primitive like shown at the next picture:
Unselect all. Clone obj2 2 times (Relative). Select obj3 and rotate it 60 deg about the X-axis. Unselect obj3. Then select obj4 and rotate it 120 deg. Select obj1 to obj4 and move them to a new object. Rename obj5 to Leftwheel and delete obj1 to obj4. Make now all objects visible. Select Leftwheel, scale it to the right size and move it to the desired position. Change to the Front-View (F3) and trim the horizontal part of the Leftgear to the needed length.
Unselect all. Top of Page Select the object Leftgear and clone it (Create Symmetry). Rename the new obj1 to Rightgear. Do the same with the object Leftwheel and call the cloned object Rightwheel. Now it looks like that:
Top of Page Press the F1-key to get the side-view. If you now have a look to the propeller-fuselage transition you will notice a gap between the propeller and the fuselage.
What we now need is a simple engine! We will use the Primitive again. Create a simple cylinder
Rotate the obj1 90 deg about the X-axis, move it near the propeller and scale it to the right size. Rename obj1 to Engine. If you now make the Fuselage visible, you will get this result:
Top of Page Now we have to create one last thing: the Tailgear. Unselect all and make visible all objects. Now create a Primitive like shown below, scale it down and move it to the desired position.
Set 4 cuts and put the parts with rotate and move to a position like that:
Now scale the view until you can see the whole airplane. Select the obj1, rotate it about the X-axis and move it to the correct position. If you the see a picture like this, the creating of your 3-D-model is done!
Congratulations! Your Deproni now looks like that:
But if you now switch off the points and lines in your view, the model looks a little bit naked . . .
Therefore have a look to the section ‘Painting the 3-D-model’. Top of Page Back |
